We are pleased to invite the public to the unveiling of the Charles Evers Mississippi Freedom Trail Historical Marker Unveiling, Friday, February 28, 2025 12:00 – 1:00 PM at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1484 Main Street in Fayette, Mississippi.

We will be honoring the extraordinary achievements of Charles Evers, who made history as the first African-American mayor of a biracial town in Mississippi since the Reconstruction era. His election in Fayette, Mississippi, was a monumental step forward, following the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which enforced constitutional rights for all citizens.

This significant event will be held in honor of Black History Month and will feature civil rights activists, historians, community leaders, and students. The unveiling ceremony will take place outdoors, with an indoor location available in case of inclement weather.

Please join us in commemorating the life and legacy of the Honorable James Charles Evers and celebrating this important addition to the Mississippi Freedom Trail.
